Can 'Cloud Atlas' survive Hollywood reincarnation?

Susan Sarandon reported for work on "Cloud Atlas" midway through the shoot, in time to see a collection of far-flung film scenes that the cast and crew were viewing.

There were bits of a 19th century sea voyage, a 1930s period drama, a 1970s thriller, a contemporary comic adventure, a 22nd century tale of rebellion and a 24th century post-apocalyptic saga.

"I just thought, my God, this looks like the trailer for every film a studio is doing for the entire season," Sarandon recalled.

First Images Of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry & Jim Broadbent In 'Cloud Atlas'

“[The movie explores] the idea of being reborn and souls being reborn through time,” Hugo Weaving recently told THR about "Cloud Atlas." When was the last time a big studio movie tackled that kind of subject matter? Well, the trick here is that The Wachowskis ambitious adaptation of David Mitchell's "Cloud Atlas" was actually financed independently from a number of production companies worldwide, giving the helmers, who teamed up with Tom Tykwer, the creative space to tell their tale.

Meryl Streep, Director Phyllida Lloyd Share Stories from the Set of 'The Iron Lady' (Video)

On Tuesday night, I had the great privilege and pleasure of moderating a Q&A in New York with the actress Meryl Streep and director Phyllida Lloyd following a SAG screening of The Iron Lady, their new film about select moments in the life and career of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. (Scroll down to watch footage of it.) The chance to moderate any Q&A with Streep, in particular, is inherently special, but what made this one even more so than usual was the unusual source of the questions.
