CULVER CITY, Calif., May 15, 2013 – Sony Pictures Entertainment has won the exclusive worldwide distribution rights to the eagerly anticipated Angry Birds animated film, making it one of the most high-profile deals of the year. The 3D film is being developed, produced, and financed by Rovio Entertainment and will be released worldwide by Sony Pictures on July 1, 2016. Several major studios pursued the global film rights in recent weeks, with Sony Pictures Entertainment emerging as the winner.

Bruce Lee Statue Unveiled in L.A.'s Chinatown

Bruce Lee has been memorialized with a seven-foot bronze statue in L.A.'s Chinatown.

The statue of the late actor and martial arts expert was unveiled Saturday to a crowd of several hundred people in historic Central Plaza, according to the Los Angeles Times.

2015 is beginning to fill up with major franchises as sources confirm to Variety that “Jurassic Park 4″ is moving to 2015. No exact date has been set yet but the next installment was originally slated to bow next June but had to push because the schedule was too tight and work was still being done on the script.

James Franco Seeks $500,000 in Crowdfunding for Movie Trilogy

James Franco is looking for $500,000 worth of backers via crowdfunding site Indiegogo to fund “Palo Alto Stories,” three feature films based on pieces from his short story collection about his hometown. The actor, director, artist and film professor has recruited four young helmers — Nina Ljeti, Vladimir Bourdeau, Bruce Thierry Cheung, and Gabrielle Demeestere — to adapt and direct “Memoria,” “Killing Animals” and “Yosemite,” fictional stories that are nonetheless based on Franco’s high school experiences in the wealthy Northern California town.

‘Prometheus’ Sequel Moving Forward at Fox

Fox and Ridley Scott are getting closer to returning to space as Jack Palgen (“Transcendence”) is in talks to write the follow-up to last year’s sci-fi blockbuster, “Prometheus.”

Scott will produce again through his Scott Free banner though it’s unknown at this time if he will direct. Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are also expected to return.
