Adam Carlson (John Krasinski), a reporter based in a small town in northern Alaska, can't wait to land a job in a bigger market. Along with the descending media circus comes Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore), an environmental activist and Adam's ex-lover. Together, they try to rally an international coalition to save the whales before it's too late.

Ted Danson superbly plays the wealthy, arrogant, cocksure Oil Magnet with a God complex. I doubt Danson had to do much acting to play this part.

Also in the mix: an aide to President Reagan (Vinessa Shaw) whose job it is to make sure the President gets good mileage out of the story; The Coast Guard (Dermot Mulroney) in charge of the rescue operation...

Don't really remember anything about this in 1988, but then I was only 11. Movie was good. True life/events movies are always good.

Loved the movie. I have always liked the movies based on true events. You know I do not remember anything about this on the news in 1988, but I am sure it was.
