The Avengers Returning to Theaters for Labor Day Weekend

Good news, everyone! Though the Blu-ray/DVD release of Marvel’s The Avengers is less than a month away, the film is returning to theaters so fans can experience Joss Whedon’s brilliant superhero saga on the big screen one more time. The announcement was made on the film’s Facebook page that The Avengers will be back in theaters this Labor Day weekend (ie. this coming weekend). So round up your friends and carve out two hours this weekend to go see Hulk smash on the big screen, if you so please.

New Featurette from The Avengers Blu-ray Focuses on Chris Evans and Mark Ruffalo

As we move closer to the release of The Avengers on Blu-ray, we’re slowly getting a peek at more and more special features that will appear on the disc. Remember that strange moment in The Avengers after Mark Ruffalo Hulks out aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier and ends up plummeting to earth and waking up in a pile of rubble as an elderly security guard looms over him?

It turns out there was a lot more to that scene than we got to see, and Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive deleted clip.

Hawkeye isn’t thrilled he spent most of The Avengers as Loki’s meat puppet

A member of The Avengers feels left out! Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner) is not thrilled that he spent most of his screen time in The Avengers as a mindless, bow-wielding goon for Loki. The actor told the LA Times that he spent 90% of the movie as a character he didn't sign on to play. When asked if he preferred playing Evil Hawkeye or Good Hawkeye, Renner responded:

Joss Whedon will return for 'The Avengers 2'

Disney chief Bob Iger announced during an earnings call with analysts that Joss Whedon will write and direct "The Avengers 2" and develop a Marvel-themed TV show for ABC.

Move comes after Whedon's "The Avengers" has earned nearly $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office and generated strong sales for "Avengers" merchandise.

Six hundred million dollars later, The Avengers has rocked our world. The film, and the build-up to it, were such massive pop culture events, years in the making, that everything coming after it almost feels superfluous. So instead of looking forward, maybe it’s time to look back and appreciate what Marvel did leading up to The Avengers.
