Synopsis: Inspired by a true story, THE BOYS ARE BACK is a deeply moving, wryly confessional tale of fatherhood, that intimately evokes both the fragility and wonders of family life. It follows a witty, wisecracking, action-oriented sportswriter (Academy Award® nominee and Golden Globe® winner CLIVE OWEN) who, in the wake of his wife’s tragic death, finds himself in a sudden, stultifying state of single parenthood. With turbulent emotions swirling just below the surface, Joe Warr throws himself into the only child-rearing philosophy he thinks has a shot at bringing joy back into their lives: “just say yes.” Raising two boys – a curious six year-old (NICHOLAS MCANULTY) and a rebel teen (GEORGE MACKAY) from a previous marriage -- in a household devoid of feminine influence, and with an unabashed lack of rules, life becomes exuberant, instinctual, reckless . . . and on the constant verge of disaster. United by unspoken love, conflicted by fierce feelings and in search of a road forward, the three multi-generational boys of the Warr household, father and sons alike, must each find their own way, however tenuous, to grow up. Their story is not just about the transforming power of a family crisis -- but the unavoidable grace of everyday life and love that gets them through.

MPAA Rating: THIS FILM IS RATED PG-13 FOR SOME SEXUAL LANGUAGE AND THEMATIC ELEMENTS.

Great acting done by Clive Owen and his younger sons. One of my favorite scenes was the youngest child's birthday.

I thought the story concept was good, but Clive couldn't carry the story all alone and there weren't any good visual scenes for it being in Australia. I wanted it to tug at my heart but it didn't. Would be better as a tv movie or on pbs.

My guest felt he was coming down with a cold and was polite enough to suggest we skip this time because of the "swine flu" scare.

The movie dragged a little, but was still really good. The only thing holding back the tears was the contract between the adults and the younger son strugging off emotions. Had the son been emotional, the tears would have been flowing!

I thought the movie was emotional. It shows that fathers should also participate in child rearing. They should spend quality time with their children and not just leave the wife to handle everything. One should be prepared to deal with children when one parent is sick or gone. The father had a very difficult time dealing with his child because he didn't realize all the work his wife hhad done ...more

Well acted, good choice of actors. Beautiful scenery. Storyline is different about a single father who is learning to be a good father to 2 boys.

My husband and I both enjoyed this movie. I was sorry when it ended because I had become invested in the characters and didn't want to see them go.

The story was great , made you think about life. The youngest actor (Arty) was the best of all. I think every family should see it. Scenery was beautiful.

Thought the final scene he has talking with his deceased wife was especially touching, when she tells him to buy a convertible car for Artie.

It's a beautifully directed and acted movie. You know you're in for something different from the beginning when it's revealed why beachgoers are shouting at Clive Owen's character while he drives by in his car. There are a lot of other big no-no's to do with kids in the movie, but it adds to the real desperateness of a naive father trying to connect with his kids.

Again, let me emphasize how beau...more
