Max lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions. I thought this was a really good movie. Best for the 7-13 yr old range. My kids were a little young to understand it.

The film was slowly paced. I thought it was pretty good, and liked Spike Jonze's attempt, but I don't think he hit the mark. Max's behavior was abhorrent at times, which is understandable because he's a kid, but he wasn't an extremely likable character. Plus his mother's reaction when he came home (giving him cake) was stupid. They should have just ended it when they looked at each other.

Good movie. Just like the book I read when I was younger. I like the part when everyone is having a good time. It makes my imagination go wild too.

I felt the move was pushed to be good and in doing so the move felt strained to me. I felt like there was not any time to just feel good during the movie.

It didn't quite capture the appeal of kids.

The movie kind of sad

We were so disappointed! My family had been waiting for months for the movie to come out. We all loved this book, but the movie was a different story almost altogether. It was violent, mean and very sad. Definitely not the uplifting and happy ending that we were expecting. We came away with an exhausted, unhappy vibe from the whole thing. Can't believe what a waste of time it was. So sad.

The time differences in comparison to reality as in travel to "Narnia" was handled nicely, and needing food upon return later that same evening. And it did bring a tear to my eye!

Too drawn out, Max too old, did not like modern day family drama thrown in.

This isn't an action-packed adventure story but rather a psychological drama--that happens to have monsters--about emotions and relationships. I rather think it's more appropriate for adults than for children, despite the age of the main character.

too dark to be a kids movie. i saw the plot, but the whole movie was dark and about destruction, not positive reinforcement like in the book.

This movie is amazing. It was touching and moving. I really liked the scene where Carol was running after Max to say goodbye, but he was already in his little boat.

Loved it. Made me laugh and cry. Very different and yet heartwarming. Loved the ending scene. Read the book as a child and couldn't wait to see the movie. It exceeded my expectations. =)

Hi there i thought the movie was too dark meaning about the kid and that he needed to go onto this adventure and figue things out for himself and know what the meaning of family was like for him and well as others..yeah.
almae 10.23.09 4:22pm(Hide)(Show)
The child is a Brat and I do not believe the it is for children the hold movie could have lasted 20 minutes.

Confusing. Didn't understand if the kid was dreaming or was he really on a island with monsters. Didn't get the connection between Max and the monsters.

Max is an angry kid in WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. He's in a single parent household with his mother and older sister. He thinks he's being ignored and after a fight with mom, he sails away to an island. Here he meets and becomes the king of these critters. I saw them as being a part of him- the loner, the angry one, the helpfull one, the kind one, etc. They all just want to be together and sleep i...more

I thought that the play in the movie was on the violent side and I had a hard time watching the jiggly hand held parts of the movie. It is visually stunning! No plot to speak of, but I am glad that I saw it.
harold1 10.21.09 9:32pm(Hide)(Show)
My favorite scene was when Max apparently realized that he was feeling the same way as the main monster (unk name). it was a poignant moment in which max seemed to come to grips with and understand his emotions and behaviors at home.
I did not like the scene when the monster ripped off the other monster's arm. It seemed pointless to rip his arm off, and it made me feel a bit sorry for him losing...more

I thought it was a perfect adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic. Especially one of the final scene's where the wild things say goodbye to Max, on the beach. Brought tears to my eyes because it reminded me so much of my childhood.
jksmiles0320 10.21.09 6:47pm(Hide)(Show)
I really enjoyed the movie. It wasn't very much like the book, but I really liked when him and the wild things were playing amongst the trees, and when max was having the snowball fight with his sister's friends even though it didn't end very well. Also, the area they built was beautiful.
sarah1002 10.21.09 5:58pm(Hide)(Show)
I really liked this movie. It was a good adaption from the book and it was entertaining. This movie failed to cater to the right audience though. It was overly depressing and all about loneliness, plus some parts were scary and violent. This does not make a good story for young children such as the book is supposed to and does.
If you are a teenager or older you will probrably really like th...more

It was not what I was expecting but was still a good film. The visuals were beautiful and the monsters were well-done, but the story was very downbeat. If I was a little kid that went to see it I would be scared. I give it a 7/10.

I did not really think it was a kid's movie because it was a little dark and possibly scary in parts for children. However, I think it followed the book well and had a good message about family and forgiveness. I loved Max. The costuming was terrific. Overall, I really enjoyed it!
