The Expendables 2: A Gofobo User Review
The Expendables 2 is absolutely everything The Expendables was and more! Sly did not direct this one, as he did the first time around allowing him to focus more on his acting and story. Bigger explosions, more deaths, more action, and more 80’s throwbacks made The Expendables 2 the biggest, best, most intense action movie of 2012. Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgreen, Arnold Schwarzenegger (HE’S BACK), Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Nan Yu (Maggie), Liam Hemsworth (Billy the Kid), and Jean-Claude Van Damme. What more can anyone expect from an action movie? That’s right, a story and substance surrounded by a decent plot. Well just like Rocky, Stallone is back in the writer’s chair and does an incredible job at the script and providing the jokes.
The story line is simple for The Expendables 2, but simple does not always mean boring. A terrorist wants to find blueprints to a Russian mine where there is tonnes of weapons grade plutonium and Church (Bruce Willis) sends in Barnie (Sly) and his team in with Maggie to stop the blueprints from falling into the wrong hands. Unfortunately they are not the only ones on the mission to find this blueprint, and the terrorist captures one of the Expendables. Now the terrorist has leverage obviously, and if the Expendables don’t give up the blueprints they will kill one of the crew. They gave away the blueprints, and still their team member got killed in the most vicious way imaginable. Now it’s personal!
The acting is significantly better than it was in the first Expendables. The characters seemed to be more dynamic and seemed more relaxed and comfortable in their roles. The play on each other’s franchises/movies was priceless. References from Die Hard, Terminator, Rambo, etc planted these jokes perfectly and the crowd exploded with laughter. Small things like the names on the cars “Coming Soon” “Knock Knock” also provided explosive laughs, making The Expendables 2 the ultimate action movie for fans of 80’s throwback movies. Anyone who enjoyed The Expendables will DIE HARD with laughter and sheer enjoyment for The Expendables 2.
From start to finish there is gunfire, hand-to-hand combat, explosions, and just sheer comedic scenes. The Expendables 2 delivers the action that action fans have been dying for, the movie people want. Nowadays, we do not have action movies the way we had in the eighties; we only have dark action movies like Batman. Nothing is wrong with that, but we all secretly crave blood, gore, explosions, and just stupid fun in an action movie. That is what The Expendables 2 delivers a fun explosive action movie with a good story. The boys certainly aren’t done, they’ll be back!
